As the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests commence, frustrated protesters in Abuja have taken to the streets to voice their discontent with Nigeria’s economic situation. Despite a court order attempting to restrain the protests, demonstrators gathered at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in the capital.
Emmanuel Larry, an Abuja resident, explained that hunger compelled him to join the protest on Thursday morning. He emphasized the government’s need to address their demands and clarified that the demonstrations, scheduled from August 1 to August 10, would persist despite rumors of cancellation.
“Today is the hunger day, we all promise you that we are going to be on the streets of Abuja. Hunger has brought me out, I don’t have money to buy fuel,” Larry stated. “I don’t have money to buy whatever; there is total bad governance. The government has used propaganda and fake news to tell you that the protests have been cancelled.”
Larry firmly reiterated that the protests are ongoing and will continue for the planned ten days. “If our demands are not met, we will remain on the streets. Hunger, insecurity, and poor housing have brought me out. A lot of things are going on in this country.”
The protest underscores the widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians and highlights the urgent need for the government to address the country’s economic and social challenges.
